The Helena International Affairs Council (HIAC) was established by the Helena City Commission in February 2000. Its primary purposes are to assist the city in the conduct of international affairs and to promote Helena as an international gateway in the local area and as the state capital. It supports efforts to enhance the Queen City's economic and cultural development through successful and sustained cooperative involvement with other people, cities, businesses, and organizations.

The volunteer members of HIAC serve as staff of the Helena Cultural and Economic Affairs Office, located in the Mayor's office, and offers the following functions:

    provide protocol information and assistance for meetings between foreign delegations and city officials, businesses, and cultural organizations,support the efforts of individuals and groups in the Helena region that seek to expand their contacts and cooperation with international cultures and markets, and establish relationships with other representatives of the international community who wish to establish long-lasting relationships and friendships with the people of Helena.

*The HIAC meets on the third Tuesday of each month from 5:15 pm to 7:00 pm in room 326 of the City-County Building at 316 N Park Avenue. HIAC meetings are open and anyone interested in international affairs is welcome to attend.
